Competitions! Not for us.

Everytime, I hear about the competetions, I heard that some winners will receive special fine wine (sorry, I dont understand much about alcoholic drinks). A recruitment consultant calls me and informs that if I can get my mates to use him then I will receive 6 bottles of champagne.

Over the years I have realised that all these prizes, etc are not meant for Muslims and not meant for me. I have stopped taking part in these competitions and once while I was attending a conference, the questioner asked a question that only I knew the answer of. I kept my mouth shut because he was going to offer the person who answers some special kind of Alcoholic drink bottle that was 50 years old and costs £100.

Alcohol consumtion only harms the human body and it can harm in many different ways. In UK it has become a favourite time pass of the tabloids (a.k.a. gutter newspapers) to photograph the drunk celebrities and other people doing something weired and often shameful.

One may argue that Alcohol only causes problems if consumed in excess. This may be true but in reality one in three adults drink more than they should.

Alcohol and different intoxicants can only cause problems in personal lives and in the society. Quran is very clear on this:

The Holy Quran, 2.219: They ask thee concerning wine and gambling. Say: "In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit." They ask thee how much they are to spend; Say: "What is beyond your needs." Thus doth Allah Make clear to you His Signs: In order that ye may consider.

The Holy Quran, 5.90: O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling, (dedication of) stones, and (divination by) arrows, are an abomination,- of Satan's handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper.

The Holy Quran, 5.91: Satan's plan is (but) to excite enmity and hatred between you, with intoxicants and gambling, and hinder you from the remembrance of Allah, and from prayer: will ye not then abstain?
